The lead partners of The Commons (Martha’s Table, Community of Hope, Horning Family Fund, and Horning Brothers) joined with elected officials, community leaders, residents, construction and design partners, and supporters on June 7, 2018 to celebrate the completion of the newly constructed 55,000 sq. ft. community program campus. The Commons is now the home of Martha’s Table headquarters, the Horning Family Fund office, and an additional location for Community of Hope. Programs and services offered at The Commons will support the healthy development of children and families in the Fort Stanton and Hillsdale communities. Please visit www.marthastable.org and www.communityofhopedc.org for specific information about programs and activities at The Commons.
On Tuesday, May 9, 2017, over 250 residents, community leaders, nonprofits, business and government leaders gathered for the groundbreaking of The Commons. It was a special moment for all of us - the local community and the lead partners at The Commons (Horning Brothers, Horning Family Fund, Martha's Table and Community of Hope) as we celebrated a major milestone for our community program campus. The Commons is all about people coming together to achieve something greater than any of us can achieve on our own, and every aspect of the groundbreaking echoed this collaborative spirit.
We were joined by Mayor Muriel Bowser, Director of Constituent Services for Ward 8 Kim Harrison, ANC 8B Chair Khadijah Watson, and President of the Hillsdale Civic Association Arnehl Lyon. Students from the Ballou HS Marching Band and the Moten Elementary School Choir warmed our hearts with their musical performances.
Thanks to everyone who helped to make the groundbreaking a memorable event!
We are thrilled to announce the launch of The Commons website! We have created this new web presence to connect, inform, and update the community about the development of The Commons.
The Commons is a campus for community programs that supports the healthy development of children and their families in a welcoming and safe environment. Together with residents and organizations in the surrounding Fort Stanton and Hillsdale neighborhoods, the Horning Family Fund, Horning Brothers, Community of Hope, Martha’s Table, and others will offer comprehensive programming to advance positive outcomes for children and families.
